Telstra gives Television a splash in a BigPond
Telstra is Australia's largest telecommunications company, and with 8.8 million fixed line and 10.3 million mobile connections, its name is one of the most recognized in the country.
Through its BigPond brand, Telstra has become Australia's leading Internet Service Provider with 60% of the country's subscribers, but like so many other Telecom Operators, it was suffering from both competitive and regulatory pressures.
The major step has been the launch of a hybrid set-top box, developed by Netgem, and marketed as the T-Box.
It combines two DTT tuners, a 320 GB hard drive, and the ability to stream content Over The Top (OTT) from the Internet. It debuted in a few hundred homes in Melbourne during December 2009 before being rolled out across the country from June 2010.
The T-Box features:
- Double broadcast tuners (DVB-T) and IP access
- Watch & record FTA TV channels for up to 7 days
- Pause & rewind live TV on a 320GB HDD
- BigPond TV internet channels · BigPond VOD store
